10:30 h. Departure from the Europa Conference Center to the town of Zarautz.

12:00 h. Aperitif in famous chef Karlos Arguiñano’s restaurant (in Zarautz) and walk along the town’s beach.

13:00 h. Departure for San Sebastián-Donostia, guided visit.

  • San Sebastián-Donostia: The city is located on the coast of the Bay of Biscay about 20 kilometres from the French border. It is the capital of the province of Gipuzkoa in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. It is the head of the Basque Eurocity Bayonne-San Sebastián.
    Its main economic activities are commerce and tourism and in past epochs it was one of Spain’s most fashionable destinations. Its landscape, dominated by La Concha Bay and its modern architectural development begun in the second half of the nineteenth century that shaped a French-style, gentrified city that would encourage the development of tourism on a European scale including sojourns by royal families.

17:00 h. Arrival at Vitoria- Gasteiz


10:00 h. Departure for Bilbao from the following places:

10:30 h. Visit to the old quarter of Bilbao and the Guggenheim Museum

  • This is a museum of contemporary art designed by the Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry and located in the centre of Bilbao. It belongs to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. It was opened on 18 October 1997 by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
    The most striking feature of the museum is the innovative building in which it is housed. It adopts twisted, curvilinear forms covered with limestone, glass curtains and titanium plates. It has a total area of 24,000 m², of which 10,540 m² are reserved for temporary exhibitions and is distributed into 19 galleries. It is located on the banks of the Ría de Bilbao (estuary) in the area known as Abandoibarra.

14:30 h. Visit to Bilbao by boat on the estuary.

  • RIA DE BILBAO. The Ría de Bilbao is the estuary formed by the Nervión and Ibaizábal rivers and their last tributaries on their arrival to the Cantabrian Sea in the Bay of Biscay. It crosses Bilbao dividing the city in two parts: Deusto, Uribarri, Casco Viejo, and La Peña on the right and Zorroza and the Ensanche on the left.
    Passing out of the jurisdiction of Bilbao, it continues for 23 kilometres it meets the sea between the towns of Santurce, Getxo and Ciérvana.

17:00 h. Return to Vitoria-Gasteiz


10:00 h. Departure for Salinas de Añana

11:00 h. Visit to Salinas de Añana

  • The Salinas de Añana Salt Valley (Álava, Basque Country) is located 30 kilometres from Vitoria-Gasteiz. It is an ancient salt production facility that has given rise to an architectural landscape from which people have extracted a commodity essential for life - salt - from its natural saltwater springs. This unique salt-production landscape is a UNESCO cultural landscape due to its unusual architecture, now under being restored.

14:00 h. Lunch with all Conference attendees
